The 8461 Series 2 handles communications directly on the interface device and provides a dedicated environment for reliable, high-performance execution of the CAN communication protocol stack.

Support for NI-CAN, 2-port, high-speed PXI CAN Interface module – The PXI-8461 is a fault-tolerant controller Local Area Network (CAN) interface for developing applications in conjunction with NI-CAN drivers. The PXI-8461 offers eavesdropping only, self-receiving (echo), and advanced filtering modes. All PXI-8461 ships with NI-CAN driver software, which provides a framework based API to help users develop applications quickly. All NI-CAN interfaces meet the physical and electrical requirements of CAN-based in-vehicle (automotive) networks.

The CAN single cable interface can communicate with gadgets at higher speeds of 33.3 kb/s (88.3 kb/s in fast mode). Regular single-cable gadgets inside the car contain comfort devices such as seats and rearview mirror adjusters. Users CAN configure the software optional CAN interface for fast, low speed/fault tolerant or CAN single cable. The wide range of transceiver hardware provides an ideal solution for applications requiring hybrid communication standards.

With NI-CAN programming, users CAN import CAN database documents in Vector (.DBC) format. CAN frames can contain different qualities. It also provides an alternative way to control, display, and view bus insights.
